Foundation Capital General Partner Paul Holland

Paul Holland is a Portola Valley, California-based investor and business leader who has sponsored and managed seven funds over his more than 20-year tenure as a general partner at Foundation Capital. He has focused his attention on software and consumer companies, sponsoring startup companies that have gone on to achieve more than $20 billion in market capitalization. Between 2008 and 2010, Paul Holland balanced his responsibilities as general partner with his role as the president of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists.

Before joining Foundation Capital, Paul Holland worked as senior vice president of sales and global operations for Kana Communications in Palo Alto. Benchmark Capital, an early investor, brought Mr. Holland in to establish and oversee the global commercial business. He successfully grew the company to over 300 employees around the world and annual sales of more than $140 million before stepping away to join Foundation Capital.

Paul Holland’s academic background includes a master of business administration from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master of science in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia. He completed an undergraduate program in public administration and speaking at James Madison University, graduating cum laude.
